The objective is to design a LiDaR (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging) sensor, very high resolution and long range (1km) for aircraft, and thus improve the perception of their in-flight environment in extremely degraded weather conditions and thus flight safety.

This project responds in particular to the need for remote detection of obstacles to be avoided during cruise, in particular cables.
The proposed solution is the development of a Scanning Flash Lidar. “Scanning” provides a large angular coverage, while “Flash” allows a high resolution locally on a very small angle.

CHALLENGES

The main technological challenges are :

  • Development of an innovative up conversion system to convert IR light in the visible spectrum
  • Merging and adapting the Flash and the Ranged gated image reconstruction algorithms.
  • Reducing the size of the system along with its power consumption.

MAIN TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • 1km detection range
  • 3 millidegrees angular resolution
  • 1,3cm at 500m minimal size of detected objects
  • 80°x60° field of view
